Wilma Damage at Flamingo

Postby Adirondick » Thu Nov 03, 2005 11:30 pm

I have made some attempts at finding out what Wilma did to Flamingo from internet postings, not wanting to bother Park staff by calling, and not knowing what Flamingo is like on a good day. The following is pretty ominous:

No date is given for the report. This "npsdigest.gov" site may be worth watching for news of recovery. If the report is very recent, it does not look good for us any time soon. Please add any news you have about Flamingo. Maybe this is asking too much from a crystal ball, but it would be nice to know the story down there as it unfolds toward the end of January.

We had lodge reservations at Flamingo for the first week in Feb. and they have called and cancelled after Wilma went through. I don't have any info on the camping.

closed until further notice

hey all,

The information I have is that the flamingo is closed until further notice. The Flamingo took a direct hit. The hurricane was much stronger than they expected. Up north here in Palm Beach Co. we had alot of damage and are finally getting back to normal.

Hope this helps.

This information is a week old though.

We may be able to monitor the Park Service's efforts toward Wilma recovery at Flamingo here: http://data2.itc.nps.gov/morningreport/
The latest update is dated November 4 as of this post.
Good luck,
