BobA raised some questions about fishing regulations for Everglades National Park. To wit, are licenses required, and can they be purchased in Flamingo?
As far as I know, licenses are required if fishing in salt water, even from shore (unless you are a Floridian), but not if fishing in fresh water. Most of the water in the immediate Flamingo area is considered salt. Fresh water begins with Nine Mile Pond (11 miles north of Flamingo), and I have seen folks fishing from its banks. There are a couple more freshwater ponds further north along the main park road. For full details, including warnings about mercury levels, check the Park Service's site:

Anybody know if licenses can be purchased in Flamingo? In past years you could get them online at www.floridagame.com, but that web site seems to be under construction at the moment. There is a contact address listed: info@floridagame.com
