Table Rock Lake/ Branson Missouri Flotilla

Postby ozarque on Sat Jul 17, 2010 11:01 pm

This is a thread started to explore the interest to plan a tentative
Flotilla gathering in September on beautiful Table Rock lake near
Branson in SouthWest Missouri.
There are many services, lodgings, campgrounds and other entertainment activities in this
area. It is near the famous musical entertainment city of Branson.
The lake is mostly clear and cool and coves abound as well as high bluffs in hardwood forest.
Beaver lake and Taneycomo are not far as well which have even cooler and clearer waters.
Fishing for many species is always good.

John,
As stated elsewhere I will be in Branson for my Destroyer's reunion 9/29 - 10/3. My planning is complicated by the fact I don't return from a trip to Ireland until 9/16. I prefer federal campgrounds so I can use my golden age pass. It doesn't usually save me any money since I just stay twice as long because it is half price. Table Rock seems to be the only federal facility near Branson. Too many choices of campgrounds but I have tentatively chosen Indian Point as it says it has waterfront sites with water and electric. I noticed some of the sites close 9/15 but this one is open until 10/31. I need to contact a couple of shipmates before making a final decision but am leaning toward booking a campsite for Sunday 10/3 arrival, 8 night stay departing Monday 10/10 with the possibility of staying longer. While checking my calendar I noticed 10/11 is Columbus Day. Hope that isn't a big camping day in Missourri.
Earl
PS: I will be dragging a little ALiner hardshell popup camper.

Hey Ozarque, dang I already have a big September outing planned...I'm very interested in that area. Used to live in KC & it's been a bit over 30 ago that I was on Taneycomo, and have thoughts of another outing there with the Glider.

Keep us posted as to what the date might be...if there's a small crowd I could try to squeeze in another trip...not sure I can pull that off, from the workplace aspect.

tstckma,
Anytime anyone wants to paddle Beaver lake near Rogers Arkansas, Taneycomo (brrrr!) or Table Rock or any other lake in the area, just let me know and I can meet you there. I particularly like paddling to the islands in Beaver Lake.
Taneycomo is a year-round, ice-cold, long, thin lake full of trout.

I guess the tentative plan is 10-3 through 10-10 to escort Earl's Destroyers.
There is a liberal seeding of people of Italian heritage in SouthEastern Kansas, but not enough to present a large impact on campground occupancy in the Branson area over Columbus day.

The deed is done! I just booked a campsite at Indian Point Park on Table Rock Lake arriving Sunday 10/3/2010 and departing Sunday 10/10/2010. I might stay longer since I don't know where I'm going afterward. Hope to see some of you there. Earl

Hi ozarque. My wife and I would be interested in a paddle in your area in October. We're especially interested in Beaver Lake since we have a daughter and grandson living in the Rogers/Cave Springs area. Do you have any recommendations for camping around Beaver Lake? Thanks, Dan.

I usually primitive camp on the islands of Beaver Lake, but there are many full-featured campgrounds in many places. I have not searched out good RV campsites other than the Corps of Engineers Campground at the dam East of Eureka Springs Arkansas. That would be a good place to start. One island is in view from there about a mile from the campground.
As far as Beaver Lake itself goes, it is good everywhere.

Here is a link for USCorpEngineer Campgrounds on Beaver.

Since I am working a new job through the week, I will come down and paddle 10-2 and 10-3 and again the next weekend on 10-8, 10-9, and 10-10. I had originally intended to spend the whole week, but my obligations changed last week.

The lake is close enough that I can get there in about an hour, so anytime anyone is going, let me know.
